Lauren Robinson On the Art of Defining Your Brand

Lauren Robinson On the Art of Defining Your Brand

Project: YOUTH’s Ongoing Branding and Aesthetic
Words: Lauren Robinson

From our aesthetic to our ethos, it has taken us a while to get to where we are due to creative trial and error. Since YOUTH first started, we’ve changed our minds multiple times and have sometimes fallen into the trap of looking too closely at other brands and designers we admired. We have had to continuously remind ourselves of what we all want from YOUTH and what our own vision is.

I think it can be tempting to conform purely to what clients and collaborators want, but it’s starting to become clear that if you define your brand and style in a competitive industry, then you’ll start to work on the right projects with the right clients because of that distinction.

Trusting yourself initially and gaining the confidence to do so is the first hurdle, then you learn along the way by throwing yourself into situations that are increasingly more challenging. Whether it’s your personal or professional brand, it opens you up to working with people who understand your vision and want to be a part of it.

Don’t conform purely to what clients or collaborators want. Trust yourself to define your brand and style.

Lauren Robinson is an interior designer at YOUTH Studio, based in Manchester. Driven by a team of unconventional thinkers whose youthful grit and conceptual rigor is met with a commitment to design detail, the studio aims to continually challenge the creative industry and themselves, and stand boldly at the intersection of design, culture, and commerce.
